Weekend at a Glance: June 29 to July 1

Arse Sweat-A-Palooza
Buttonwillow Raceway Park (Buttonwillow, CA) - 24 Hours of LeMons

LeMons will hold their second 24-hour race of the season in the California desert at Buttonwillow this weekend. The early weather forecasts predict temperatures in the mid-90s, so the event should live up to its name.

The race begins at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and ends at the same time Sunday. The drivers' meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Gates open for the weekend at 7 a.m. Friday with technical and BS inspections from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Buttonwillow will host an open test day Friday, which will have a driver's meeting at 8:30 and run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $75 per car and $125 per driver with half-day rates available.

Onboard Video

This onboard comes from the Subaru Legacy wagon of Good Luck Everybody Else Racing at last December's Arse-Freeze-Apalooza. The Pikachubaru turns a lap in about 2:40 on this long circuit, which in its last configuration included the Drag Strip rather than Lost Hill (the turns are named, not numbered). No word yet on which configuration it will be for this race, but to see the course with Lost Hill, see our "Weekend at a Glance" from two weeks ago when ChumpCar ran that configuration of the course.

Mid-America Melee
Gateway Motorsports Park (Madison, IL) - ChumpCar World Series

ChumpCar will take on the re-opened Gateway with a standard Double-7 weekend on the interior road course.

The entire weekend will follow the standard ChumpCar schedule with each race running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The pre-race drivers' meetings will be at 8 a.m. Saturday and 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

ChumpCar HQ will hold a barbecue after the Saturday race. As in Buttonwillow, temperatures are expected to exceed the mid-90s.

Registration, technical inspection, and driver's gear inspection will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the novice driver's meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be no test day at Gateway.

Please see the supplemental info below, which was updated June 25 with additional information regarding fueling regulations.

Since there hasn't been any crapcan racing at Gateway in the past, we thought it may be beneficial to show the infield course from an open-cockpit viewpoint to give a greater sense of spatial awareness on the track. So here is a video of Denny Stripling running a Spec Racer Ford at Gateway in 2010 at an SCCA event.

BIR IV - Rage on the Stage
Brainerd International Raceway - ChumpCar World Series

The ChumpCar race at Brainerd is also a standard Double-7 weekend. Like the Gateway race, race times will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday with the drivers' meetings at 8:15 a.m.

Gates open for the weekend at noon Friday. Again, like the Gateway race, inspections and registration run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the novice school at 6 p.m.

BIR will hold a test day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The start/finish line of the newer 2.5-mile road course is shown around 1:15 in this video. The car is an as-yet unidentified BMW E34 that we think might be the #36 Ambitious But Rubbish car (Please correct us if we're mistaken).
